Early Pregnancy Symptoms – Is There A Bun In The Oven?

Every woman is different and so are her experiences of pregnancy. The onset and degree of early pregnancy symptoms may vary within women i.e not every woman has the same early pregnancy symptoms. Many women experience them within days of conception, others take a few weeks before pregnancy symptoms kick in and a lucky few feel no discomfort at all.

This makes sense because the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is produced by cells that form the placenta and levels can be detected by blood tests about 7-12 days after conception and by urine tests about 12 – 14 days after conception. In general the hCG level doubles every 72 hours in early pregnancy.

Although ultrasound and pregnancy tests are the only methods to confirm the pregnancy however,  there are some early pregnancy symptoms that suggest that you are pregnant.

This the first early pregnancy symptom that leads to the the suspicion of pregnancy.However, cyclical bleeding can occur up to to 12th week of pregnancy in some cases but, such bleeding is usually scanty and lasts for shorter duration and it corresponds with the date of regular menstrual cycle.

This is quite a distressing symptom.It occurs during 8 -12th week of pregnancy as pregnancy causes the uterus to swell and it starts to enlarge for the growing foetus immediately. The uterus puts pressure on the  bladder making the feel for more frequent urination. This early pregnancy symptom disappears after the 12th week as the uterus straightens up.

This early pregnancy symptom can be evident as early as 6-8th week, because of the hormone levels change rapidly after conception, breasts become swollen, sore, tingly, enlarged and more flabby. There is a feeling of fullness and pricking sensation in the breast.

Mild breast tenderness and swelling can be present in some cases.

Some notable early pregnancy symptoms in the breast are;

a) Increased nipple pigmentation.

b) Nipples become more prominent and sensitive.

c)Thick yellowish secretion (Colostrum) can be expressed as early as 12th week.

Mood changes are common early pregnancy symptom. These changes can include depression, anxiety, irritability, and mood swings.

It is a famous early pregnancy symptom,But not every woman experiences it. During pregnancy, nausea can occur at any time of the day, but it is most commonly in the morning.

Nausea peaks in as soon as HCG kicks in and increases in line with HCG. HCG has very important functions and is responsible for maintaining the level of hormones and also provide baby with nutrients till the placenta takes over.

Fatigue is another reported early pregnancy symptom. Feeling lethargic is completely normal as most of the energy is taken up to protect the baby and also help create a safe environment for him for the next 9 months.

Levels of the hormone progesterone are adding to the drowsiness. Obviously, morning sickness  and urinating often amid the night can add to drowsiness, as well.

Pregnancy hormones slows down bowel functions to give maximum absorption time of vitamins and nutrients. Progesterone not only causes your ligaments to loosen but can also interfere with the digestive muscles, and slows it down, this is a very common early pregnancy symptom which goes on during whole pregnancy.
